Mechanical Engineer

Fiberdyne Labs, Inc, founded in 1992, is seeking a talented mechanical engineer to join our product development team in Frankfort, NY.

Job Responsibilities:
The individual in this position should have strong material knowledge and problem-solving skills. You will be responsible for creating mechanical designs and supporting documentation for products that range from small indoor fiber optic enclosures to large outdoor digital signs.

Additional duties:
  • CAD drafting
  • Detail part and assembly drawing preparation
  • Bill of material development
  • Stress analysis
  • Issuing engineering change notices and product release documentation.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with traditional subtractive manufacturing processes (milling, turning etc.), additive manufacturing processes (3D Printing), material specifications, experience with standard metrology methods (test and measurement), illustration software experience (Adobe Illustrator /Photoshop, etc.), technical writing experience, project planning and cost estimating, and familiarity with civil engineering practices (foundations, wind loading, structural stress calculations).

SolidWorks 3D CAD experience preferred. Candidate should have experience in sheet metal design, plastics/ injection molding design and structural/weldment design. A minimum of an AAS or BS in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology is required. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Job Description

Fiber Optic Technician

Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Fiber Optic Technician is to assemble and test passive fiber optic subassemblies in our production environment.
This position is Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, with overtime based on workload.

Must be able to perform the following duties, training will be provided:
  • Fusion Splicing of optical fibers
  • Routing of bare optical fiber (250um)
  • Assemble modules made up of multiple passive optical components
  • Test and inspect optical components and subassemblies
  • Interpret Work Orders and Work Instructions
  • Communicate and interact with team members

Must be proficient with the following, training will be provided:
  • Mechanical dexterity, with the ability to route bare optical fiber
  • Fusion Splicing of optical fibers
  • Mechanical assembly of subassemblies containing passive optical components
  • Operation of Fiber Optic Test Equipment; including Optical Spectrum Analyzers, Light Sources and Power Meters
  • Proper optical fiber handling and connector hygiene techniques
  • Use of Optical Connector Inspection Scope

Prior work experience as a fiber technician is preferred however training will be provided. Must show proficiency for learning the details and demonstrate a willingness to work well with our team.

Job Description

LED Digital Sign Technician

Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of an LED Digital Sign Technician is to build and repair LED Signs and related components. This will involve installation, monitoring, maintenance, support and optimization of networking hardware, software and communication links for our clients.

Must be able to perform the following duties:
  • Communicate successfully with customers via telephone, email and on-site visits.
  • Some sites will require the ability to climb structures and work at heights.
  • Document networking problems and solutions.
  • Install structured low voltage LED Panels and cabling products at a customer's site per industry standards and the specific statement of work (SOW).
  • Ensure his equipment is in order and travel arrangements are complete before deploying to the field.
  • Arrive on site as scheduled and perform the SOW in a professional and efficient manner that represents the employer as an industry leader.
  • Report to the assigned Project Manager and notify the Manager of any issues discovered while in the field.
  • Work the required hours and time in order to complete the assigned project on time.
  • Travel primarily in a 5-hour radius around Utica, NY, but may include travel throughout the US. Travel requirement (nights away from home) is typically 5% of the time. Most travel does not include weekends.

Must be proficient with the following:
  • Network and router configuration
  • FIeld diagnoses and repair of digital electronics
  • Installing software onto computers/controllers
  • Assembling computers/controllers
  • Assemble product as needed

Must be proficient in the repair and diagnosing of digital electronic equipment. Applicants should have experience and knowledge of computer networks; including switching, routing, QOS, and firewalls. Applicants must demonstrate very good organizational skills in order to multi-task projects, duties, and schedules. Must be able to read and interpret documents and prints in various forms in order to accurately and efficiently perform the job. Computer skills including Microsoft Office, as well as programming languages (Visual Basic, C++, Flash) are a plus. Must be flexible and able to adopt to an ever changing schedule in order to satisfy customers expectations. Must have a valid driver license.

Education: Minimum two or four-year degree in Computer Science, Computer and Network Security, Computer Information Systems, Electrical Technology or other applicable degree; additional college or trade school is desirable. Related field or equivalent experience is satisfactory.
